Jardin d'Eden is a leisure, dining and accommodation complex on the bank of the Nsele river, in the Kindobo neighbourhood, commune of Nsele. Direct access to a 16-hectare island makes it one of the most distinctive addresses in the area — visitors cross the river by pirogue to hike or picnic on the island.
What you'll find
A one-hectare riverside estate with a terrace overlooking the river and access to the island (known as the "Île du fruit défendu") by pirogue ($4,000 FC/person) or boat. Hikes are organised on the island. Le Malangwa restaurant serves local and international cuisine. The hotel has 23 apartments available at $60/night. The site stays open late — until 22:00 — unlike most venues in the area that close at 18:00.
When to go
Open every day from 08:00 to 22:00. As with all riverside sites, the dry season (May to October) is more comfortable for pirogue excursions and hikes on the island.
Budget for a day
Return transport with Kino Congo: $125 for a car up to 6 people, roughly $21 per person in a group. Pirogue to the island: $4,000 FC/person (~$1.40). Island picnic: $6,000 FC/person (~$2.10). Hotel: $60/night.
