La Sablière is one of Kinshasa's best-equipped leisure sites. Riverside setting, pools, jet-ski, swimming, volleyball, restaurant — there is enough to fill an entire day without getting bored. It is also one of the few spots in Kinshasa where freshwater swimming is genuinely viable.
What you'll find
Outdoor pools, a wooden jetty over the Nsele river surrounded by giant bamboo, a volleyball court, children's play equipment and barbecue facilities. Jet-ski and boat excursions are available directly on site. The restaurant serves local cuisine. Accommodation is available for those who want to stay the weekend.
When to go
Dry season (May to October) for clear skies and the river at its lowest — that is when swimming is most pleasant. Arrive before noon to get a decent table and space at the pool. Saturday is the busiest day; Sunday morning is more relaxed.
Budget for a day
Entry: $5 per person. The pool costs $6 to $11 depending on the time slot. Jet-ski is $50 for 15 minutes. Budget $15–30 per person for food and drinks at the restaurant. Kino Congo transport is $125 for the car return trip, up to 6 people — about $21 per person in a group of six.
Combine with
The Jardin d'Eden is a few minutes away on the same Nsele river — a 16 ha island, pirogue excursions, restaurant. Both spots are in the same direction from the centre, making it possible to do both in a day if you leave early.
