Les Pieds dans l'Eau is a leisure site on the banks of a spring-fed artificial lake, in the village of Kibomango about 700 metres off Route Nationale 1, commune of Nsele. The setting is simple — lawn, freshwater lake, thatched shelters — but that is exactly what Kinshasa families are looking for on a quiet Sunday, 33 km from the city centre.
What you'll find
A freshwater lake for swimming, picnic and relaxation areas, grilled food and local drinks available on site. No water sports such as jet skis or pedal boats — just water, greenery and calm. On Sunday afternoons the site fills up with families and children.
Who it's for
Great for families with children (freshwater feels safer than the Congo River) and groups who want a straightforward day out without complex logistics. Less suited to those looking for sports activities or a lively atmosphere — this is a rest site, not an entertainment venue.
When to go
Mainly at weekends. On weekdays the site may be closed or empty — call ahead. The dry season (May to October) is the best time for swimming. Arrive in the morning: on Sunday afternoons all the good spots are taken.
Budget for a day
Return transport with Kino Congo: $125 for a car up to 6 people, roughly $21 per person in a group. Entry + swimming: $10/person. Picnic package (entry + swimming + picnic area): $30/person. Grilled food and drinks extra.
Combine with
Along the same route on the RN1: Picasso Beach in Kinkole is a few kilometres away, with access to the Congo River and a terrace overlooking Pool Malebo. La Sablière in Mombele (Nsele River, jet skis, pool) is in the same commune of Nsele.
