Mfuti Plage is a white sandy beach on the banks of the Congo River, about 30 km from central Kinshasa, in the Lutendele neighbourhood, commune of Ngaliema, near Mbudi. There is no managed infrastructure here — no operator, no entry fee, no facilities. It's a stretch of wild river, and that's exactly the point.
What you'll find
A white sandy beach surrounded by rocks that emerge in dry season, at one of the narrowest points of the Congo River in this area (around 1 km from bank to bank). The green hills around the site allow for bush hiking. It's one of the few spots from Kinshasa where you can see the river rapids from the bank.
When to go
Dry season (May to October) is best — the rocks emerge and the beach is wider. In rainy season, the river level rises and part of the beach disappears. Access tracks are harder to navigate after rain.
Budget for a day
No entry fee. Transport with Kino Congo: $125 for a car up to 6 people ($21/person in a group). Bring your own water and food — no catering on site. A 4x4 is required for the last few kilometres.
Pair it with
Mbudi Nature in Lutendele is in the same area — Congo River rapids, restaurant, barbecue. Sunset in Kinsuka-Pêcheur is 15 km back towards Kinshasa — pool and riverside terrace to end the day.
