Mona Paradis is a private 120-hectare agro-pastoral estate in the Ndjili Brasserie neighbourhood, founded by Congolese businessman Jean-Pierre Mbuku Mbemba. At 22 km from the centre, it is an unusual nature outing in eastern Kinshasa — little known to foreign visitors, and popular with Kinois who want a green setting without leaving the city.
What you'll find
A botanical garden with plant species from around the world — over 12,000 trees including mangosteen, mango trees and bamboo groves. Livestock activities (pigs, rabbits) visible on site. A beach on the Ndjili River for swimming and picnics. A restaurant with Congolese specialities, with live music some weekends.
When to go
Opening hours are not published officially — call ahead before making the trip. The dry season is preferable: the access road is unpaved and can become impassable during the rainy season, even in a standard car. A 4x4 is recommended in the rainy season.
Combine with
Heading towards Ndjili, traffic from Gombe passes through Limete. There is no comparable site in the immediate Ndjili area — this is a destination in itself.
