Kinshasa Botanical Garden, a green and scientific space in the commune of Gombe

The Kinshasa Botanical Garden is a 7-hectare green space founded in 1933, located at the junction of Kasa-Vubu and Rwakadingi avenues, in the commune of Gombe, near the Zando market. It is one of the few green lungs in central Kinshasa.

Congolese biodiversity in the middle of Gombe

The garden holds around a hundred tree species representative of Congolese biodiversity. Its purpose is scientific, educational and conservational. It's a calm space, easily walkable from many parts of Gombe, and a genuine contrast with the bustle of the city centre around it.

For diaspora visitors or expats passing through Kinshasa, it's an accessible stop with no vehicle needed, and pairs well with a visit to the Kinshasa Zoological Garden — which is in the same part of Gombe.

Difference from the Kisantu Botanical Garden

The two gardens share similar names but are entirely different. The Kinshasa Botanical Garden covers 7 ha in the city centre, with around 100 species. The Kisantu Botanical Garden covers 225 ha at 120 km from the capital, with more than 3,000 species and full visitor facilities (museum, restaurant, guided tours). Both are worth visiting, for different reasons.
