Experience is adventure and nature: wildlife sanctuaries, botanical gardens, safaris, caves, nature reserves and lodges. Some places are 20 minutes from Kinshasa, others are several hours by road. All require a real effort — not just a day out, but a proper departure.

An agro-tourism resort 135 km from Kinshasa, on the edge of the Zongo Falls (67 m) on the Inkisi River. Tents, bungalows, villas and a restaurant.

200 hectares of primary forest in Ngaliema, one of the last intact natural spaces in Kinshasa. Hiking, caves, ponds, cultural activities. Open weekends.

7-hectare garden founded in 1933 at the junction of Kasa-Vubu and Rwakadingi avenues, Gombe. Around 100 Congolese tree species, educational walks and a quiet retreat.

Hunting domain and nature reserve covering 350,000 ha, 130 km from Kinshasa, on the former dune system of the Bateke Plateau. Savanna, gallery forest, varied wildlife.

The only bonobo sanctuary open to the public in the world. 30 hectares of forest in Kimwenza, Mont-Ngafula. Guided visits Tuesday to Sunday, 20 km from Kinshasa.

Wildlife park in Kinshasa Gombe with more than 5,000 animals. Rehabilitation under way since July 2021. Educational focus on the fauna of the DRC.

New eco-resort in the Mitendi neighbourhood, commune of Mont-Ngafula. Mini-safari, playground, dining and accommodation in a natural setting. Entrance $10. Open Friday to Sunday and public holidays.
