DRC travel guide

Book your accommodation

In this section you will find tips for booking the right place to stay, whatever your tastes and budget. Whether you prefer luxury or authenticity, here is what you need to know for a comfortable night after a day of exploration.

Types of accommodation available

Depending on the destination, budget and length of stay, you will have a choice of different options.

Hotels

Kinshasa has several international hotels (Pullman, Fleuve Congo Hôtel, Grand Hôtel Kinshasa, Memling) for business travellers and discerning tourists. Mid-range local hotels offer a good balance between comfort and price.

Furnished apartments

For stays of more than a week, renting a furnished apartment is often more economical and practical. Many serviced apartment residences are available in the communes of Gombe, Lingwala and Limete.

Lodges

For travellers who want to explore the outskirts of Kinshasa or more remote areas, several lodges offer immersive accommodation in nature — such as in Zongo, Nsele or along the river.

Guesthouses

The most authentic option. Guesthouses run by Congolese families or expats offer a unique local experience, often at competitive rates.

Booking tips

  • Book in advance, especially for major hotels during peak season.
  • Check that the accommodation is well-located relative to your planned activities — Kinshasa is a vast city.
  • Confirm the payment terms: many establishments only accept cash in USD.
  • Ask for recent photos and verified reviews before confirming.

Accommodation safety

Opt for secured residences with a guard, especially for solo or long-term stays. The commune of Gombe (the business district) is generally the safest area for foreign visitors.
